Various activities were organized by the local government unit and business establishments to commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
Being the birth province of the country’s national hero, today was declared a special non-working holiday in Laguna by the virtue of Proclamation No. 399.
Calamba City, Rizal’s hometown hosted different events to celebrate this special day. The city government collated photos taken during the celebration of Rizal’s birthday last year. The goal of the exhibit is to highlight the life of Rizal and all the greatness he achieved for the rest of the nation.
Meanwhile, 151 policemen and civilians traveled from Luneta Park all the way to Calamba by riding on their bicycles. This is the provincial PNP’s own way to commemorate Rizal’s birth anniversary. At 1:51am earlier, the 151 biking policemen and civilian started their journey and they were expected to have arrived at Calamba, 8am this morning.
Last June 9, SM City Calamba launched “My City, My SM, My Cuisine” which showcased local foods of Laguna as a prelude to the celebration of the national hero’s 151st birthday. There was a cook-off where the contestants battled for the best version of the heirloom recipe of Jose Rizal’s sister, Narcisa, which was presented by one of Rizal’s descendant, Barbara Gonzales.
The 151st Birth Anniversary Celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal on June 19, 2012 is spearheaded by Calamba City Mayor Joaquin Chipeco in coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the Department of Tourism (DoT), the Department of Education (DepEd), and the City Council of Calamba.
