Ana Kalang Festival of Nagcarlan, Laguna

Every 3rd week of October, people from Nagcarlan are celebrating Ana Kalang Festival. According to a legend, Ana Kalang, a beautiful and capable leader allegedly saw the Virgin Sta. Ana, who took the poison out of the lanzones fruit so that it can be edible. From then, Ana Kalang Festival is celebrated in honor of the fruit lanzonez which is one of the town’s main agricultural product.The five-day fete is also for a bountiful harvest of the town’s agro-industrial crops. Like the other festivals, a grand parade tours the town, featuring dancers wearing native costumes and 10-foot high statues made of fruits and vegetables called kalang-kalang.
