Charice Pempengco, Laguna’s World-Famous Child

Charice, although has conquered the world with her powerful voice, will always be a Filipina by heart. And a Lagueña in particular.

The 19-year old singer/actress was born in Cabuyao, Laguna on May 10, 1992. Charice first appeared on Philippine TV when she joined ABS-CBN’s Little Big Star in 2005, a singing competition hosted by Popstar Princess, Sarah Geronimo.

Charice was eliminated on her first performance but made a return for the wildcard round. She was among the finalists but failed to grab the title. Charice was then 13 years old.

It was in 2007 through the online platform YouTube that Charice got the world’s attention after a fan, under the account FalseVoice, uploaded Charice’s recorded performances.

Charice - pride of Laguna, PhilippinesAnd through this, fate worked its magic on Charice’s career when she was invited by Star King (a South Korean talent show), and by huge Hollywood talk show hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey.

The rest, as they say is history. Charice was then introduced to David Foster who contributes to the career of some of the world’s biggest music artists. Charice became part of the “David Foster and Friends” who performed in the US.

Charice is truly a pride of Laguna with all her achievements. I bet Lagueños followed her guestings on Glee just as how the rest of her fans all over the world sang along with Sunshine Corazon in the hit US musical series.

No matter how far Charice would reach across the globe, she will forever be a Lagueña who makes us all proud.
