Calauan Pineapples: Sweet Tropical Treasures

Calauan is known for producing the sweetest pineapple in this part of the country.

Each time we would visit our uncle in his house in Calauan, we would not miss looking at the huge pineapple figure situated at the center of the town proper. The pineapple figure symbolizes the large production of this fruit and how it contributes to the economy of the town.

I could remember how my uncle would use Calauan pineapple in various dishes. I miss his ensaladang pinya! He’s also fond of using crushed pineapple and its juice for marinating meat.

But the simplest presentation is what I like best. Cut the sweet and succulent Calauan pineapple into cute triangles, put in the fridge before serving and voila! You’ve got a refreshing, healthy snack. My uncle would even sprinkle herbs on the pineapple to compliment with it’s tropical aroma.

So next time you visit Calauan, make sure you bring home a few pineapples! :)
